Jan Ostman Synth chips

I’m a 52 year old guy from Sweden (Yes the land of ABBA and Nord Lead) with a great interest in computers, electronics and music. Yes I’m married and make my own wine.
I’m also the funder and owner of DSP Synthesizers, a company that develope and sell chips for your DIY synthesizer projects.
I have a passion for music and have my own recordingstudio. I speak C and assembler in my sleep and writing blittering fast DSP algorithms that speak with the hardware is my second nature.
Since I have worked as a teacher (teaching music software and Adobe Photoshop) I’m a fetisch for explaning and showing of my constructions.
I hope you enjoy reading the blog and get some ideas yourself for a DIY Synthesizer.

The chip is a complete Analog Modelling MIDI synth in a 8-pin DIP. The chip reads TTL level serial MIDI data and outputs sound through a 44.1KHz Delta-Sigma DAC. The synth is a 15-DCO structured as 5-note paraphonic with a 24db lowpass filter with resonance. It also has AMP ENV, filter ENV and LFO with sine or sample&hold waveform.

dsp-D8 PCM Drum Synthesizer chip

The chip is a complete PCM Drum Synthesizer in a 28-pin DIP. It features 8 separate trig/gate inputs and 6 separate analog tune inputs. 1 input for +6dB accent and a mixed mono output. Sounds included: Kick, Snare, Closed HiHat, Open HiHat, Rimshot, Claps, Ride and Crash.

dsp-L8 PCM Latin Drum Synthesizer chip

The chip is a complete PCM Drum Synthesizer in a 28-pin DIP. It features 8 separate trig/gate inputs and 6 separate analog tune inputs. 1 input for +6dB accent and a mixed mono output. Sounds included: Agogo, Conga, Cabasa, Timbale, Maracas, Quijada, Chime and Whistle.

RMX-6 PCM Drum Synthesizer chip

The chip is a PCM Drum Synthesizer in a 28-pin DIP. It features 6 drum sounds, BD, SD, CH, OH, TOM and CY. 6 separate audio outputs. 6 analog level Tune/Pitch inputs. MIDI input listening to CH16 for Note-On triggers.

O2 Minipops

like the Minipops 7 rhythm box? Yes, the one that Jean Michel Jarre used on the Oxygen album. Here is the source code to build one yourself. It runs unmodified on any Arduino. Tempo and 16 pattern select CV input. 8 drum mute inputs. Run/stop input and clock/reset outputs. You can easily add a CD4067 AMUX chip for driving an analog sequencer in parallel with the rhythm pattern. O2 Minipops
